Several programs at Lakeland University have gotten a major boost from a Kohler trust fund. The Kohler Trust for the Arts and Education has granted $365,000 to the university to support Lakeland’s Kohler Teaching Scholars program, the Lakeland Promise Program and the Sheboygan County Scholars program. Lakeland President Beth Borgen expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Trust, which she called an important partner with the university, saying that their investment is helping to create the next generation of leaders and contributing citizens in our region.
The Kohler Teaching Scholars funds create a unique, competitive pathway to home-grow more Black, Indigenous and People of Color teachers for the Sheboygan Area District.
The Lakeland Promise Program provides qualified Wisconsin Students an opportunity to attend Lakeland’s residential program with all tuition and fees covered through graduation. That program was recently expanded to include any students and families in the state with an adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less.
The Sheboygan County Scholars program was launched in 2014 as an effort to retain the area’s most promising young people and prepare them for leadership positions within the region. So far, 37 Scholars have either graduated or are on track to do so. Scholars receive a full tuition scholarship.
