The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is out with the final unemployment report of 2024 and no large-scale changes were noted.
The Sheboygan Metropolitan Statistical Area reported a workforce of 63,700 in December, a loss of 200 from the previous month, but up 400 compared to 2023. Once seasonal adjustments are applied, the numbers employed rise to 63,900, but thatโs unchanged month-over-month, and shows the same gain of 400 since โ23. The only metro areas losing workers in the past year were Milwaukee, down 4,100, and Wausau dropping 300 workers compared to the previous year.
As for unemployment, the Sheboygan Metro Area saw a 2.3% rate in December, second-lowest only to the Madison Metro rate of 2.2%. Sheboyganโs rate is up one-tenth from November, but unchanged year-over-year.
The City of Sheboygan saw an unemployment rate of 2.5% in December, unchanged from both November this year and December of โ23. Sheboygan ended the year with the 10th-lowest unemployment rate among Wisconsinโs 35 largest communities, a rate shared with De Pere and Menomonee Falls. The lowest rate was Fitchburg at 2%.
Sheboygan County experienced a 2.3% unemployment rate in December, the same as the previous year and an increase of one-tenth since November. Along with Calumet and Kewaunee Counties, that 2.3% rate is the 3rd lowest among Wisconsinโs 72 counties. Iron County has the highest rate at 5.2%.
