Humane officers in Ozaukee County had their hands full a week ago after a welfare check revealed cats in crisis – along with their owner.
The welfare check was requested last week Wednesday after a WE Energies meter inspector contacted the Sheriff to report a growing collection of packages at the front door of the home, which had neither heat, gas nor water.
Responding deputies spoke to the elderly homeowner and determined that the house wasn’t fit for habitation by either the person or the 73 cats that were eventually removed from the home.
The Wisconsin Humane Society-Ozaukee Campus took in the cats and no criminal charges were issued. The Ozaukee County Human Services Department has taken over the case.
