Klaus Pernat passed away peacefully on January 27th, at the age of 71. Born on 7/23/1953 in Reutlingen, Germany he was united in marriage to Karin Pernat (Fuhrmann) on November 30, 1973. He would begin his career through apprenticing in the paper converting industry and would be offered an opportunity to move his family to Sheboygan to further pursue his career at ECHWill/Pemco, which would turn into Barry-Wehmiller (BW) at the time of his retirement. For decades he was a very avid Scuba Diver. This was a part of his life that was fueled by worldwide travels that included far off destinations of Fiji and Australia. When not going below the surface of the water, he loved to camp all over the state with his family and friends around him.
Klaus is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karin and their four children, John (Jenny) Pernat, Christian (Tanya) Pernat, Angela Pernat (Aaron Bernas), Marcel Pernat (Jamie Wright); grandchildren, Skylar Pernat, Fletcher Pernat, Naomi Mendez, Fern Pernat, Kayla Mendez, Travis Pernat, Maximus Martinez, Olivia Martinez, Tech Pernat, Xavier Martinez and three great-grandchildren, Arrietty Pernat, Eli Schmidt and Marleigh Schmidt. Additionally, he is survived by his parents, Romano and Sieglinde Pernat; his brother, Frank Pernat and his sisters Heike Pernat and Kerstin (Harald) Harter. Lastly, he is survived by close friends, particularly Jeff Aaberg who would be his longtime Dive Partner who would capture so many of their trips in print and film, in addition to other family in Germany. He was preceded in death by Monika Klotz, Hubie Klotz and Suzanne Klotz.
There will be a gathering in his honor for family and friends at Deland Community Center on February 8th from 3pm to 6pm. A celebration of life will be scheduled for this summer that will consist of a family camping excursion.
The family would like to thank Sharon Richardson and the Vince Lombardi Clinic for their support to Klaus during his fight with cancer. The staff and doctors at all facilities were amazing.
