Gloria J. Meyer, 92, of Plymouth, died peacefully at home on January 19, 2025 (National
Popcorn Day – and we enjoyed a bowl of buttered popcorn nearly every single night!)
She was born on January 31, 1932, a daughter of the late Adolph and Clara (Glasow)
Krueger.
Gloria was truly a woman ahead of her time. Graduating from Brillion High School at the
age of seventeen, she left the family farm, moved to Manitowoc and began working in an
office. She traveled with girlfriends to California, the beginning of many travel
adventures. She met her husband, Harold R. Meyer, at a dance. They were married on
May 12, 1956, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Osman, WI. The couple farmed in
Osman until relocating to Plymouth in 1959.
Harold and Gloria were not only united in marriage but were business partners, too, in
Meyer Auto and Towing, Plymouth, WI for nearly 40 years. Harold was the outgoing
‘face’ of the business, while Gloria made sure all the bills were paid. They truly were
joint and equal partners in all that they did throughout their married life. In addition to
working outside the home (their daughter became a ‘latch-key kid’ in 4 th grade), Gloria
was also very involved in the community and her church, St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church. She was a strong, quiet, innovative servant leader. Gloria was a member of
Christian Mothers Society, Chairperson of Kitchen Committee for 35 years, SJB Classic
and Cantabile Choir, SJB Eucharistic Minister for 20 years, CCD Teacher, Prayer Shawl
Ministry, Liturgy Committee, Parish Council, and so much more.
She was also the Secretary of Plymouth Rotary and crocheted countless afghans for
family, friends and charitable organizations.
Especially after retirement, Gloria and Harold explored several countries, including Italy,
Germany, France, Belgium, Australia and New Zealand. They also traveled throughout
the US with family and friends.
Every Christmas, Gloria and her family baked dozens and dozens of cookies to share
with family, friends and neighbors. In recent years, she also began a tradition of gifting
baked treats to all of her neighbors on Good Neighbor Day (Sept 28), as well as other
random “National” days throughout the year. She truly had a generous and giving nature.
In her spare time (when she wasn’t crocheting or in the kitchen!), she enjoyed cheering
on the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Bucks, reading and assembling jigsaw puzzles. A
quiet woman of deep faith and a very generous heart with a wry sense of humor! You
will be missed by many, Mom, especially me!
Survived by her daughter: Grace Meyer; brothers and sisters-in-law: Clem Steinhardt,
Charles (Judy) Meyer, Donald (Sharron) Meyer, Virginia (Jeanne) Freeze, Ethel Meyer,
Mary Ann Hellwig; godchildren, Denise Pingel, Diane Mattes and Thomas Grotegut; and
a multitude of nieces and nephews, countless friends and several ‘extra daughters’.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Meyer (10-26-2010); daughter,
Mary Gloria; Parents; parents-in-law: Isidore and Lorena (Schuler) Meyer; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Victor Meyer, Theresa (Earl Holschbach, Leroy Waack) Waack, Delores

Gloria.
