Students in the Sheboygan Area School District are among the beneficiaries of a nearly half million dollar donation made by the Black Spring Foundation. That fund is the product of donations made to honor Natalie Black and Herbert V. Kohler Jr. A total of $466,000 was donated to fund the Lexia Reading Intervention program, the Lakeland University Dual-Enrollment Program, and a new specialized program for students with special needs.
Lexia is a computer-based program used throughout the SASD in order to help students develop their literacy skills at their own pace. Portions of the grant will also fund a new early elementary special education program that’s designed to create a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment for students needing intensive support in functional, social, and behavioral skills.
The third portion was directed toward Lakeland University’s Dual-Enrollment Program which allows high school students to earn college credits from courses in Lakeland’s Concurrent Academic Progress Program free of charge.
SASD Superintendent Dr. Jacob Konrath said the District was “deeply grateful” for the support, adding that “These initiatives will provide students with tools and opportunities to succeed…”
