Steven J. Rortvedt, 74, of Plymouth, WI, passed away on December 29, 2024, doing what he loved; spending
time outdoors with one of his sons hunting whitetail deer near Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Steve was born on May 14, 1950, in Plymouth, WI, a son of the late Edward and Delores (Wittkopp) Rortvedt.
He was raised on the family homestead and was active in 4-H and FFA during his childhood. Steve graduated
from Plymouth High School in 1968 and attended UW- River Falls for one year before serving in the United
Stated Army from 1970-1972.
On December 4, 1976, he married Cheryl Lisowe at Salem UCC in Plymouth, WI and recently they celebrated
their 48 th anniversary together.
He worked at Gilson Brothers for several years before starting at the Plymouth Utilities where he worked for
27 years starting in water treatment, then tree trimming, and finishing as a meter reader until his retirement
in 2015.
Steve attended Salem UCC in Plymouth, and was a member of the Glenbeulah America Legion Post 484,
serving as Adjutant for many years. He was an active member of Winooski Bowmen Club, serving many roles
throughout the years ranging from pig roaster to President. Additionally, he was an active leader in 4-H and
FFA beef projects and provided leadership to the Sheboygan County Meat Animal sale committee in the early
years of its development.
Steve had many passions. During the summer months, most Tuesday nights were spent with some of his
closest friends shooting trap in the Kettle Moraine traveling trap league. During the fall he would spend his
time at the Sheboygan County fair, farming or hunting. The remaining months of the year he enjoyed
traveling with Cheryl. He and Cheryl shared many adventures together including chasing Red Stag in New
Zealand to Bushbuck in Africa. Most recently they watched sunsets from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Lastly
but most passionately, all remaining minutes throughout the year were spent supporting his sons and
daughter’s inn-law, his grandchildren, and anyone in the community lucky enough to know him and smart
enough to ask him for help.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; Children: Adam (Julie) Rortvedt and their children, Thatcher, Ian, and
Brynley of Elm Grove, WI; Brad (Laurel) Rortvedt and their children Anika, Clara, and Anders of Red Wing, MN;
and Garett (Jenny) Rortvedt and their children Lydia and Kole of Adell, WI; sisters, Sue (Dennis) Snyder and
Sally (Roger) Neuhaus; mother-in-law, Marion Lisowe; brother-in-law, Gary (Sue) Lisowe; sister-in-law, Joyce
Lisowe; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Jacob Lisowe, brothers-in-law, Larry Lisowe, Jake
Lisowe, and Denny Booton; and nephew, Eric Swangstu.
Visitation will be held on Thursday (January 9, 2025) at the Suchon Funeral Home from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM;
with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 PM. Rev. James Hoppert will officiate. Military Rites will be
conducted by the Glenbeulah American Legion Post 484 following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Steve’s name.
