Benjamin Contreras, age 83, of Sheboygan, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Froedtert Menomonee Falls surrounded by his six children. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 20, 1941, to the late Amador (Anita) Contreras and Maria Palomar.
Benjamin grew up in the Chicago area and attended local schools there. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines from 1963 to 1967. Benjamin was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, and the Dominican Republic. He was employed as a welder at Optenburg Metal Works in Sheboygan, retiring in 2000.
He was an avid reader, sometimes starting a book and staying up all night to finish it. In addition to reading he was quite the history buff and just all around… know it all (in the best way possible, of course). Benjamin was also an avid Chicago sports fan, which included the Bulls, Bears, and especially the Chicago Cubs. His faith in God and family was particularly important to Benjamin. He devoted his life to raising his six children as a single father. In addition to his own children he was the neighborhood dad helping raise many more along the way. He was a selfless man who took care of everyone around him, leaving an impression on everyone he met with his kind heart and effortless sense of humor.
Survivors include his six children, Joshua (Christa) Contreras, Maria (Derek) Contreras, Sarah Contreras, Nina (Christopher) Rolls, Timothy (Josie) Contreras, and Lindsey Mulhern; sixteen grandchildren, Carter, Lily, Amaya, Armani, Luna, Nova, Marty, Manny, Benjamin, Peter, Penelope, Madelyn, Bella, Timmy, Charlee, and Eva; a brother, Bob Ceja; and his two sisters, Dolly (Martin) Gonzalez, and Anita Rodriguez. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents Amador and Anita Contreras and Maria Palomar, and his furry companions, Cassie, Beebop, Ashcroft, and Bear.
A funeral service for Benjamin will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan with Rev. Dale Miller officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff at Sheboygan Internal Medicine and Froedtert Hospital in Menomonee Falls. Online condolences may be expressed at www.reinboldfh.com
