The City of Sheboygan will be investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to improve the security of its IT network. The Council approved transferring $401,286.50 from the Transit Fund to the IT fund in order to cover the purchase of hardware and software that upgrades the City’s cybersecurity. The arrangement allows for best use of CARES Act grant dollars, and a FEMA grant will make up the dollars drawn from Transit.
While the purchase is important in the context of the recent cyberattack on City assets, it was not in response to the event. That being said, Alder Belanger asked if there would be a summary of costs and of what happened, why it happened, the expenses involved and what’s being done in response. City Administrator Casey Bradley responded, “We fully intend to, and I understand there’s a lot of frustration…and we’re frustrated. It’s just a very long process, and it’s…a number of different things are hampering our ability to quickly get back up.”
The Council then approved that purchase.
Also approved last night was the purchase by the City of the former Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center property on North 7th Street. The City plans to establish neighborhood-appropriate, single-family homes on the property in its continuing efforts to satisfy the demand for affordable housing.
