Janet Ann (Cerull) Muth, age 81, died on December 7, 2024, at Sheboygan Senior
Community. She was born to Florence (Free) and Ruben Cerull in Sheboygan,
Wisconsin on March 4, 1943.
Jan graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1961 and attended Lawrence
University in Appleton, Wisconsin for one year. After that, Jan’s heart was drawn to the
love of her life, Mike Muth, and they married on September 8, 1962.
Jan and Mike began their married life in Evanston, Illinois while Mike was attending
Northwestern University. They moved to Sheboygan in 1965 where they settled with
their young family. They also spent time at their home in Key Largo, Florida. Jan
continued to spend winters in Florida after Mike passed away in 2007.
Family was Jan’s passion and greatest joy. Watching her children grow up in sports and
attending her grandchildren’s sporting events was her favorite past time. She was quick
to share her good luck charm or give a cheer even when unable to attend an event.
Jan had a lot of energy and spunk. Thus, she earned the nickname “The Janimal”. She
was a good athlete and played golf, tennis, and racquetball. Jan also enjoyed skiing in
Breckenridge Colorado with Mike, her family, and friends, as well as taking many
adventurous bicycle tours to various countries. Jan was a good cook and loved to plan
special events. She and Mike entertained regularly and hosted many memorable
gatherings at their home. Their annual Christmas Carol parties with her at the piano
were a favorite.
When her heart was not focused on her family, it drew her to helping others. Over many
years, Jan volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Sheboygan Service Club, and served on
the Board of Directors for the Sheboygan YMCA. Jan and Mike enjoyed singing in the
choir at the Ocean Reef Chapel in Key Largo and at First United Lutheran Church in
Sheboygan, where she also served on the Altar Guild.
Jan is survived by her brother, Tom (Ruth) Cerull, sisters-in-law Peg (Dan) Bresnahan,
Cory (Neal) Hobbs, and three children: Pam (Mike) Langan of Sheboygan, Wisconsin,
Lynn (Everett) Doolittle of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Ken (Kate) Muth of Whitefish
Bay, Wisconsin, as well as nine grandchildren: David (Amanda) Langan, Jonathan
(Mady) Langan, CJ Berg, Katy Berg, Luke Doolittle, Josh Doolittle, Michael Muth, Libby
Muth, and Patrick Muth, as well as three great grandchildren: Jameson and Avery
Langan and Lincoln Langan.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Ken and Margaret Muth, and her
beloved husband, Mike.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jan’s memory can be made to the Sheboygan YMCA and
the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Bettag and the amazing staff at Sheboygan
Cancer and Blood Specialists, as well as the staff and administration at Sheboygan
Senior Community for the excellent care they provided, as well as their genuine
compassion, kindness, and concern for Jan’s well-being.
The memorial service will be at First United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler Memorial
Drive, Sheboygan, Wisconsin on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor
Jerry Mansholt officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family at church from
1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m.
