The body of a 37-year-old man missing from Green Bay since this past Friday was located early this Wednesday morning in far northern Ozaukee County.
Benjamin Berendsen was the subject of an intensive search of the area since his unoccupied vehicle was found unoccupied on the shoulder of the northbound lane of I-43, north of Silver Beach Road. A citizen report of the vehicle led to a link to the missing person report. Various search teams spent five days looking, involving K9 tracking, drone searches, searches done on-foot, inspection of hunting blinds and area outbuildings, canvassing of area residences and businesses, tracking cell phone pings, and contacting individuals who’d recently been in contact with Berendsen.
Searchers returned to the area where the vehicle was found early this morning on foot, where Berendsen was located in a remote, swampy and heavily wooded area east of I-43 and north of Silver Beach Road, about three miles north of Lake Church.
No further information was being released as the investigation is ongoing with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. Search assistance was provided by the Ozaukee County Drone Team, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Green Bay Police Department, Milwaukee Police Department, Franklin Police Department, West Allis Police Department, and the Belgium Fire Department.
