Allen A. Weltz, loving husband, doting father and grandfather, distinguished attorney, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 86. He lived his life in several cities, including the Bronx and Brooklyn, New York; Newton, Massachusetts; Fairfax, Virginia; and Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It was marked by professional excellence, a profound commitment to giving back to the many communities where he lived, and a deep love for his family.
Born on May 2, 1938, to parents Max and Lily (née Feldman), Allen was a graduate of Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He went on to earn his degree from the City College of New York and later graduated from Brooklyn Law School with a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD).
A respected attorney in the field of commercial leases and contracts, Allen spent much of his career with the Sheraton Hotel Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as Vice President and Director of Leases and Contracts. He was known for his expertise, integrity, and dedication to his work.
Allen passionately supported numerous progressive political candidates and causes and was a cherished champion of the arts. His commitment to education, culture, and community left a lasting impact on the organizations he supported. His legacy is one of kindness, service, and a steadfast belief in the importance of giving back.
In his personal life, Allen was known for his warm heart, keen intellect, and deep love of family and friends. He will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, his love of jazz and classical music, ice cream, his beloved four-legged companion Patches, and for being the proudest grandfather a grandchild could ever hope for. Above all, Allen’s unwavering love and dedication to his wife, Judith—whom he affectionately called “Judalah”—was evident in everything he did. They shared 61 years of marriage, and Judith was by his side when he passed, as she had been throughout their remarkable life together.
Allen is survived by his wife, Judith; his brothers, Gerald Weltz and Jeffrey Weltz (preceded in death by Nan Weltz); his children, Elissa Schwartz (Joshua), Gregg Weltz (Tracy Brunette), and Pamela Weltz (Mark Zilembo); and six grandchildren, Jason Schwartz and Lauren Kasoff (Daniel), Olivia (Logan Rubio) and Max Weltz, and Chloe and Francesca Zilembo. He is also survived by a host of friends, colleagues, and admirers who will remember him for his wisdom, generosity, and unwavering sense of justice. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
