An influx of money from the State of Wisconsin will help the City of Sheboygan in its efforts to replace old lead water service lines. Part of an over $273 million federal award being distributed through the Wisconsin DNR’s Safe Drinking Water Loan Program, Sheboygan is among 86 municipalities being funded in the effort.
The City of Sheboygan had requested $500,000 for the Sheboygan Census Tract, and another $4,465,000 for the Municipality. The actual award comes out to a total of $2,447,500 in the form of loans to the City that will help reduce the cost of replacement. Property owners will be responsible for only 20% of the final bill.
The awards announced on Monday are preliminary, and will be finalized following a 30-day window for municipalities to request a reevaluation of their priority score.
