Officials with the Sheboygan Area School District wasted no time in thanking the voting public for supporting their efforts to address issues with two aging middle schools through a referendum to borrow funds. Approval of the $121 million ask means that the District will be able to renovate and add to the Urban and Farnsworth Middle Schools on their current sites.
Superintendent Dr. Jacob Konrath said that “We are extremely appreciative of our community’s strong support of our schools, reflected in the 65% approval of the referendum. Rebuilding and remodeling Urban and Farnsworth Middle Schools will provide modern learning spaces for future generations of SASD students designed for 21st Century Learning. We do not take our community’s support for granted, and we will continue our work with a strong dedication and commitment to ensuring the success of all students.”
Five years of planning, facilities assessments, community-wide surveys and numerous community input sessions were all part of a campaign with the community to get the green light for launch.
The approval will mean an additional 20-cents for each $1,000 of property value to a home within the SASD. Even with the added cost, though, the administration said that the mill rate will decrease by 10.7% from last year, while the Sheboygan Area School District’s portion of the property tax levy will also decrease – by 1% – from last year.
Planning of the implementation phase will begin immediately, with completion of Farnsworth expected in the fall of 2027, and Urban in the fall of ‘28.
