Ruth L. Mehre, 91, of Sheboygan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, October 21, 2024, at Meadow View Health Services.
Born May 15, 1933, in Sheboygan, Ruth was the daughter of the late Noah and Erna Johnson Weinhold. She attended area schools and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1951. On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Earl M. Mehre at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plymouth. The couple recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Ruth worked for the Kohler Company as a private secretary for 17 years before her retirement in 1996. During her career, she was a member of the Professional Secretaries International (PSI). She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan where she was active in the Couple’s Club, the Agape Circle where she served as a zone leader for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Mother’s Club. She also volunteered with the bookstore and the Piecemakers Club. Ruth liked to keep active by sewing and quilting. She was also a member of the Sheboygan County Quilters Guild. She especially enjoyed the time she spent as a leader with the Busy Bees 4-H Club.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Earl; her children, Kaye Mehre, Milwaukee, Vickie (Jay) Hansen, Heyworth, IL, Scott Mehre, Sheboygan, and Brett (Stephanie) Mehre, Dousman; five grandchildren, Bryce (Katie), Spencer (Sarah), Evan (Jade) Alex (Jessica) and Garrett (Bella); eight great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Leah Weinhold, Sheboygan Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, Noah and Erna, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald; and her in-laws, Victor and Frieda Mehre.
Funeral services for Ruth will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1810 N. 13th Street, Sheboygan. Pastor Alan Kretschmar will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for the St. Paul’s Piecemakers Quilt Group or the American Lung Association for research for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice, especially Tabitha and Megan, for all of their loving care and support.
