Robert “Bob” Steger, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19 at Rocky
Knoll Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since early June. He was born
on September 22, 1941, in Plymouth, WI, the third child of three born to the late George
and Lyla Steger (Kruschke). Known by family and friends as “Bob”, he was a life-long
resident of Plymouth, where he attended St. John the Baptist Catholic grade school,
and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1959. After several years in college and
the Army National Guard, he married Mary Louise Nolan on June 26, 1965. Shortly
before his marriage, Bob joined his father as the second generation of Plymouth Sheet
Metal & Furnace Co., which later became Steger’s Heating & Cooling. His career in the
heating and cooling industry spanned 45 years.
Bob’s jovial personality and smile was his trademark. Family, friends, and past
customers will remember his loquaciousness and varied life stories. His many lifetime
hobbies included pheasant hunting, fly fishing, and being a handy man around “the
shop” and home. After retiring from business, Bob and Mary moved to the country and
embarked on renovating a 1920’s farmhouse, where they took in many stray animals
and explored the environs of their new home. He took up singing in the Church choir,
graduated from the Cardinal Stritch Lay Ministry Program and embraced the many
activities of his grandchildren. Bob’s memory will become stronger in our hearts and
live on through family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Steger (Nolan), their children, Greg (Maryellen)
Steger of Plymouth, Daniel (Rolando Medina) Steger of Boston, MA, David (Katrina)
Steger of Brookfield, WI, and AFS student Dr. Jose Salgado, Seattle, WA. Bob is
blessed with eight grandchildren: Michael (Elizabeth) Steger, Joseph, Maria, Mikela
(Lucas) Steger, Nathaniel, Jameson, Angelina, Andreas, and one great-granddaughter,
Mary Cecilia Steger. He is further survived by his sister JoAnn (Bill) Mueller and Shelby
(Chuck) Andrews.
