Local golfers weren’t able to overcome the runaway leader as The Wisconsin PGA Championship Tournament went to first-round winner Mick Smith. The Australian native shot his second straight round of 66 at Wisconsin Country Club in Milwaukee to win his third Wisconsin PGA Professional Championship by a margin of seven strokes over Jason Tipton of Chenequa Country Club. The win gives Smith a $4,200 boost, putting him in 2nd place on the 2024 WPGA money list with winnings of $13,474.79. Three Sheboygan County players competed, but placed no better than 8th place for the tournament.
David Bach of Whistling Straits, who finished two-under after round one, went one over par on Tuesday and finished in 8th place with a purse of $975. Blackwolf Run’s Dan Hastreiter went two over on Monday and three over par Tuesday to finish in 16th place with $462, and Matt Sabol of Pine Hills had five over par on Tuesday, combining with his first-round two-over-par to finish in a tie for 25th place and a $280 purse.
