Restrictions imposed by the City of Sheboygan on a well-known tavern will be discussed in committee after being labeled unfair and vague by its lawyer. Attorney Richard Hahn of Holden & Hahn law firm says that requirements to prohibit minors from the property and to use a scanner and metal detector on clients in order to maintain the Class-B liquor license for Dave’s Who’s Inn are conditions no other tavern is required to meet, and that the reasons for imposing them are vague and unfair.
The tavern and its owner, Dave Repinski, have a long-running history of conflict with the City, which withheld its license for 30 days two years ago, reissuing it only after Repinski agreed to conditions of running a scanner on ID’s, a metal detector, and the prohibition of minors on the premises. Those conditions, he said, make it impossible to operate as the family-friendly, community space he’d been developing the business to be. Following a fight outside the tavern that revealed an un-working scanner and triggering further threats to pull the license, Repinski decided to close the bar in late June until the issues are resolved.
Documents from Attorney Hahn stating Repinski’s case will be considered when the Licensing, Hearings and Public Safety Committee meets on Thursday.
