Melvin Dwaine Wensink, 93, of Gibbsville, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at
Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls.
Melvin was born to Dewey and Mary (Blok) Wensink in the Town of Lima on December
23, 1930. He attended 5 Corners School and later served his country in the United
States Army where he was stationed in France. It was this service and dedication that
gave him the opportunity to go on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight in 2015, a highlight
of his later years.
On June 21, 1957, he married his best friend, Donna Ludens at Gibbsville Reformed
Church. Melvin was a faithful employee of Bemis Manufacturing where he worked in
various capacities for over 45 years.
He was a man of vibrant faith and a dedicated member of Gibbsville Church where he
served as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Tuesday morning prayer
group, and sang in the church choir for over 60 years.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing with his sons, playing cards, attending grandchildren’s
events, Dutchmen basketball games, Campus Life Bible Studies, and studying the
Bible. Above all, he cherished time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna Wensink; children, Mike (Laurie)
Wensink, Roger (Laura) Wensink, and Gail Wensink; four grandchildren, Chris (Kara)
Wensink, Chad (Helienna) Wensink, Heidi (Al) Cooley, Stephanie (Zubin) Rupani;
multiple great-grandchildren; brother, Ron (Shirley) Wensink; brothers-in-law, Wayne
(Lynn) Brasser, Don Lammers, sisters-in-law, Joyce Rauwerdink and Marilyn Price; and
brother-in-law, Dwight (Sylvia) Ludens. He is further survived by other nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Mary Wensink; daughter-in-law,
Jean Wensink; and sisters, LaVerne (Warren) Dulmes, Audrey Brasser, and Mary
Lammers; and brothers-in-law, Gib Rauwerdink, and Alan Price.
Visitation will take place on Monday, July 22 from 3pm until 6pm at the Wenig Funeral
Home of Oostburg and again on Tuesday at the Gibbsville Church from 10am until
10:45.
A funeral service will take place at Gibbsville Church on Tuesday at 11am with Rev.
David Krueger officiating. Burial and military honors will take place at Gibbsville
Cemetery.
