Most disabled Sheboygan County Veterans won’t have to pay for boat launch fees in Sheboygan County. That’s thanks to a program announced on Wednesday by County Veterans Services Director, Todd Richter. The program is a collaborative effort between the Sheboygan County Veterans Service Office and the Planning and Conservation Department. Under the effort, veterans meeting a disability rating of 70 percent or more will be exempt from fees for obtaining a boat launch permit. Those permits cover County-owned launches at six area waters: Crystal Lake, Elkhart Lake, Little Elkhart Lake, Gerber Lake, Jetzer’s Lake and the Sheboygan Marsh. The normal annual permit is $16 for County residents, and $24 for non-residents.
Richter said the program is a token of appreciation for sacrifices made by the County’s veterans, providing them the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful waterways of Sheboygan County at no cost. Interested veterans can obtain their free boat launch permit by visiting the Sheboygan County Veterans Service Office on Forest Avenue in Sheboygan Falls. Questions concerning eligibility can be phoned in to 920-459-3053.
