The man charged in the April, 2023 death of a 4-year-old child in Sheboygan has plead no contest in the case against him.
Cordelia Kuether died when she was struck while on a walk with her mother and two other children near 21st and Saemann Avenue. Police reports say they’d stopped to pet a dog when a truck driven by then 23-year-old Nathan Heitzmann blew the stop sign on North 21st Street, colliding with a second vehicle and sending that into the people nearby. Kuether died of her injuries while two others sustained abrasions and cuts.
Heitzmann, who didn’t have a valid license, admitted his fault at the scene, and on Monday pleaded no contest to a charge of homicide by vehicle while using a controlled substance. He’d initially plead not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. A second charge of knowingly operating while suspended causing death was dismissed after being read into the record for sentencing, which is scheduled for August 29th.
