With tens of thousands expected at Sheboygan’s lakefront for July 4th celebrations, the Sheboygan Police Department had a few things people should know.
The Freedom Run launches festivities at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, and vehicular traffic and parking will be prohibited along the route on Broughton Drive from Wisconsin Avenue northward to Barrett Street beginning at 7 a.m.
The Independence Day Parade starts at 9 a.m. traveling north from Center Avenue on 8th Street to Michigan Avenue, then east to Broughton Drive and south to New York Avenue. Viewers may reserve a spot with chairs, blankets or tarps, but not before 5 a.m. on the 4th. Anything placed before then will be considered abandoned and removed. Broughton Drive will remain closed from Michigan to Wisconsin Avenues for the remainder of the day with activities centered at Deland Park, and parking will be prohibited on the north side of Penn Avenue all day to allow two lanes of westbound travel away from lakefront activities.
Due to traffic flow restrictions, those living south of the river and leaving Deland Park after the fireworks are encouraged to take either Pennsylvania, Erie or Superior Avenues west to 14th Street or Taylor Drive to go south, and those viewing the display from the south side should take Union Avenue to South Business Drive to continue north.
