Alyard “Al” Otto Rahn, age 87, of Sheboygan, died on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center. He was born in Sheboygan on February 1, 1937, to the late Alfred and Viola Rahn.
Al had many happy memories of his childhood with two brothers and four sisters growing up on the Rahn family farm. Following his graduation from Howards Grove High School in 1954, Al enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After his Military service Al joined the City of Sheboygan Police Department, he retired in 1989 after 29 years of service. He then took a position with Kohler Hospitality Security and later retired as manager of that department. On October 22, 1966, Al was united in marriage to Judith Matichich at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Sheboygan.
Al was a Trustee and President of the Sheboygan Professional Police Officers Association and he also served on various committees at the Knights of Columbus and the Sheboygan Elks Club, of which he was a member. He was also a Boy Scout Troup Leader, usher, trustee, and chairman of the Human Concerns Committees at St Peter Claver. Al was also one of the founders of the Sheboygan Liars Club. He enjoyed aviation, camping, traveling, and playing cribbage with friends.
Survivors include his wife Judy, of Sheboygan; a son, Chris “CJ” Rahn, of Grafton; siblings, Irene (James) Worminghaus, of Howards Grove, Eldon Rahn, of Sheboygan, Virginia “Ginny” Genske, of Mosel; a brother-in-law, Lyle Schoenfeld, of Sheboygan ; and a sister-in-law, Judy Rahn, of Sheboygan. Al was further survived by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Delores Schoenfeld, brother, Leslie Rahn, his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy, and Donald Fischer, two sisters-in-law, Kathy Rahn and Char Rahn, and a brother-in-law, Larry Genske.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Sheboygan.
