Retiring County Board Supervisor Roger Te Stroete was recognized for his decades of service at Tuesday night’s meeting that closed the 2022-24 term of the Sheboygan County Board. And with it, Roger Te Stroete bid farewell to the organization where he served as District 25 Supervisor for the Town of Holland and Village of Cedar Grove for the past 40 years – the longest serving county board member to date.
The observance during Tuesday’s County Board meeting drew State Senator Devin LeMahieu, who presented Te Stroete with a Legislative Citation in recognition of the Supervisor’s outstanding achievements and dedicated public service. The two had served together on the County Board from 2006-2015. Also present was the Wisconsin Counties Association’s Sarah Diedrick-Kasdorf, who presented Supervisor Te Stroete with the WCA Commendation for Exemplary Service.
Roger Te Stroete was first elected to the County Board in April of ‘84, serving on just about every committee. During his service he gained a reputation as a fiscal conservative who also had a collaborative spirit and thoughtful demeanor. He also served as County Board Chairman for four years beginning in 2012, during which he supported such initiatives as the Sheboygan River/Harbor Dredging Project, the Fiber Optic Network Project, and the establishment of the Amsterdam Dunes Preservation Area and Wetland Mitigation Bank.
Current Chairman Vern Koch said that Te Stroete’s “common sense, pragmatic leadership has made him a mentor to myself and many others who have served alongside him.”
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, County Administrator Alayne Krause thanked and recognized two additional supervisors who didn’t seek reelection: District 22 Supervisor Al Bosman who served on the County Board for 17 years, and District 15 Supervisor George Kulow who served for four years.
