Making Sheboygan better through gardening for three-quarters of a century was officially recognized recently when the Lake Shore Garden Club met for their 75th anniversary. A “City of Sheboygan Proclamation” was presented to Lake Shore Garden Club President Doris Weber by Mayor Ryan Sorenson, recognizing the club’s “invaluable contributions to the beauty, vitality, and well-being of the community.”, and National Garden Club Third Vice President, Gerianne Holzman, presented a Certificate of Merit to Weber, recognizing the 75th anniversary and honoring the club as a member of the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation.
The club’s contributions were recalled by District Vice Director, Elaine Wagner, through a virtual “Walk in Time”, reviewing the many projects of the club from 1949 to the present, among them – garden therapy, civic beautification and education, and especially “The Heritage of Trees Project” that planted trees, shrubs and flowers at six Sheboygan schools.
Going forward, the club will continue its financial and horticultural support to such organizations as the Ellwood H. May Environmental Park, the Sheboygan County Historical Society, the Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization, the Sheboygan County Law Enforcement Memorial, the Plymouth Historical Society and Veteran’s Park, and Bookworm Gardens, along with monetary support to agencies like The Great Lakes Conservancy and Trees for Tomorrow.
