Salazar Responds: Resignation From Council Due to Change of District, Not for Mayoral Campaign
by Kevin Zimmermann
Rumors that her resigning from her Common Council seat in order to launch a campaign for Mayor of Sheboygan were refuted by Alderperson Amanda Salazar on Saturday.
That she would resign on March 5th was part of a more extensive rumor that began circulating mid-week, the remainder of which remains without any supporting evidence at this time.
Salazar answered an email request from WHBL News for her response on Saturday by stating that: “I do not have intentions to run for mayor – I am resigning from council due to moving out of district.”
Ryan Sorenson, the incumbent Mayor, will be up for reelection for his second term in 2025.

A Sheboygan Alderperson has chosen to announce her resignation at Monday night’s Common Council meeting. Amanda Salazar, who represents Sheboygan’s 3rd Aldermanic District, will announce that she will be stepping down effective March 5th. Salazar has served less than a year in her second term. She ran unopposed in 2021, and defeated challenger Paul Bolgert in the April 4th, 2023 election.
Rumors began circulating earlier this week that Salazar would step down in order to begin a campaign for Mayor of Sheboygan, but there has been no confirmation of those ambitions. However, that rumor also predicted her resignation, as confirmed in the official agenda for Monday’s 6 p.m. Common Council meeting.
