The Wisconsin Department of Justice is looking into the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting over the weekend.
The incident began at 9:40 p.m. Friday when a North Fond du Lac police officer tried making a traffic stop, beginning a pursuit that ended about a half mile into Winnebago County on I-41 when a tire deflation device was used.
The driver, and lone occupant, called 911 reporting they had a gun and exited the vehicle, approaching officers on the scene. A North Fond du Lac police officer shot the subject, who died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. No officers were injured.
The involved officer, who was wearing a body camera, is now on administrative duty while the Wisconsin Department of Justice conducts an investigation along with the State Patrol, Winnebago County Coroner’s Office and the state Department of Criminal Investigation. The Winnebago County D-A will receive those results, and no other information has been released at this time.
