MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — If you’re heading out to return a gift, be sure you know what you’re in for.
Wisconsin Division of Consumer Protection administrator Michelle Reinen says you may have to go to the manufacturer, and not the retailer in some cases.
“You could end up having an item not be returnable, especially electronics, if the packaging has been opened, and the shrink wrap is removed from those items,” said Reinen.
Reinen also says to make sure you know the policies of the store you’re returning an item to; and that some stores will only give you in-store credit.
Be sure you’ve got the gift receipt for the item you’re looking to return, and if you do run into trouble at the store, contact Consumer Protection at (800) 422-7128.
