A rivalry of sorts played out once again last Wednesday, but it’s a friendly one that annually helps raise funds for Sheboygan’s Salvation Army. The “Battle of the Banks & Credit Unions” pits the area financial institutions against each other to see who can raise the most funds. This year the Kohler Credit Union stood tall, reclaiming the prestigious title by orchestrating a remarkable $2,057 in contributions while spreading joy at Festival Foods. The second-place winner, HSA Bank, which took the title the previous two years, raised $1,319, while United One Credit Union took 3rd Place with $1,164. Others competing included Oostburg State Bank, Johnson Financial Group, Meadowland Credit Union, BMO Harris Bank and the National Exchange Bank.
Carrye Jo Cony of Sheboygan’s Salvation Army Post called the contest a “breathtaking display of unity” among financial institutions that usually compete for their customers’ money. Instead, Cony said, their cooperative efforts will help the Salvation Army provide Christmas toys to a record-breaking 1,880 children from 604 area families while “weaving love and hope into the lives of Sheboygan County Families in need.”
The over 7-thousand-dollars raised through the contest nibbles away at this year’s $735,000 goal of the Red Kettle Campaign, now in its 132nd year.
