A glimmer of good news in what’s becoming a dismal season for the Green Bay Packers. Former first round draft choice Rashan Gary announced through his agency on social media that he has agreed to terms on a four year contract extension with the team. According to other reports, the deal could be worth up to 107.5 million dollars, making him among the highest paid edge rushers in the league. There’s an estimated 96 million dollars of new money in the deal and Gary pocketed a cool 34.6 million dollar signing bonus by putting his name on the dotted line. Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said before the season that getting Gary locked up long term was a priority but he wanted to make sure his recovery from a torn ACL in 2022 was complete. Gary blew out the knee last November 6 against the Lions in Detroit. His rehabilitation after surgery was remarkable, getting ready to play on opening day this season. Even on limited snaps Gary has been producing. He had a three sack game in September and he leads the defense with four and a half sacks and 15 quarterback pressures. The Packers believe they’ve locked up a defensive difference maker now through 2027.
