MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A man has been arraigned for a brutal Labor Day weekend assault on a UW Madison student.
An affidavit filed roughly two weeks after the assault reveals Brendan Thompson claimed he blacked out.
Thompson was pulled over that night and reportedly told officers he was drinking at a bar in Fitchburg.
A few hours later the victim was found naked, bloody, and beaten in downtown Madison. She was later placed in a medically induced coma.
Investigators said Thompson was at the scene but was gone by the time police arrived.
Police said cameras in the area, DNA, and witness statements led to Thompson’s arrest.
Thompson faces multiple charges and had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf by the Dane County Court on Tuesday.
He’s jailed on a $1 million cash bond and is due back in court December 1.
