MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The author of legislation to legalize marijuana in Wisconsin says it could be beneficial to the state’s agricultural community; including farmers who are already legally growing hemp.
Senator Melissa Agard of Madison has introduced a bill to legalize medical marijuana before, but it’s never advanced in the Republican-controlled legislature.
“I’ve met with many hemp farmers in Wisconsin, and other folks that want to be part of that industry,” said Sen. Agard. “I know that if we were able to legalize cannabis in the way that our neighboring states, Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois have, that we would be able to lift up our agricultural community. So many farmers are coming to me saying they want to be part of this industry.”
Republican legislation to allow medical marijuana is reportedly in the works at the Capitol, but has not been introduced.
