MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The House and Senate are taking different approaches to funding the government past September as a possible government shutdown approaches.
Wisconsin Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany says three-quarters of the budget is ready to go.
“I’m hoping that we do a continuing resolution for the balance for that 25% because we’ll be most of the way and then let’s finish the rest of those appropriations bills,” said Tiffany.
However, Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin says the Senate is working on a temporary solution.
“In the Senate right now, we know we need more time to pass the government funding bills, so we are debating a continuing resolution that would get us until mid-November; I think ample time to do the rest of our work,” said Baldwin.
The current budget will run out on Saturday.
The government has begun notifying federal employees of a pending shutdown.
