MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A bill in the state legislature addresses penalties for fleeing police.
The Republican measure, being circulated by Milwaukee state representative Bob Donovan, would enhance the maximum sentence for fleeing an officer, fleeing/causing bodily harm, fleeing/causing great bodily harm and fleeing/causing death.
The charges are already considered felonies under state law, but the bill would move them into a more serious classification, leading to a harsher maximum sentence.
Donovan is also the lead author on a bipartisan bill that would provide state grants that cover the cost of driver’s education courses.
