MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A new report from the state Department of Health Services finds that falls are a leading cause of injury and death in Wisconsin.
Kris Krasnowski, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging says that doesn’t have to be inevitable
“There are things people can do, particularly older people and their families and caregivers,” said Krasnowski. “We can work together to identify strategies to reduce the risk. We know people want to stay independent in their homes as long as possible. We want that for everyone.”
Putting grab bars in the bathroom and clearing trip hazards in walkways are easy ways to reduce the chance of a fatal fall.
Last year, EMS providers responded to over 130,000 falls across the state, the top injury they responded to.
