MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A newly filed lawsuit asks the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prohibit the state Legislature from impeaching Justice Janet Protasiewicz.
The suit, filed directly with the court this week by three Protasiewicz voters, states lawmakers lack constitutional authority for impeachment, and that removing the liberal justice from office would invalidate the constitutional rights of people who voted for her.
Republican legislative leaders have threatened impeachment if Protasiewicz does not recuse herself from two redistricting lawsuits.
Protasiewicz referred to the Republican drawn maps as “rigged” during her election campaign, in which she defeated conservative Daniel Kelly with 55% of the statewide vote.
