MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A Wisconsin U.S. Senator comments on the detention of a soldier from Racine in North Korea.
While in Milwaukee Wednesday, Senator Tammy Baldwin said the recent confirmation from official North Korea media that U.S. Army Private Travis King crossed the border into North Korea is a first step toward bringing King home.
“Our government is using every channel they can,” said Sen. Baldwin. “We don’t have direct diplomatic relationships with North Korea, but we have lots of indirect ways of sending messages.”
King was scheduled to return to the U.S. to face possible disciplinary action after serving time in a South Korean prison. Instead, King crossed the border into North Korea, where state media says he did so due to being disillusioned with the inequality of American society and racial discrimination in the U.S. Army.
