PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Vice President Kamala Harris touted the White House’s broadband expansion plans at a stop in Pleasant Prairie on Thursday.
Speaking at the Sanmina plant, Harris says the U.S. tech sector will benefit from the program just as much as the people getting broadband connection.
“President Biden and I required that the materials and products used in these projects, from steel, to electronics to fiber optic cable, must be made in America,” said Harris.
The White House compares the plan to the Rural Electrification Act from the 1930s, that pushed power lines into most of America.
Wisconsin will be getting $1 billion in funding for expansion.
Sanmina will be producing some of the broadband equipment right here in Wisconsin.
