MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Wisconsin’s oldest inmate and longest serving inmate both died on the same day.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections said the oldest inmate, Edward Heckendorf, died May 19 at the age of 99. Heckendorf, who was sentenced in 2016 to 20 years of prison time at the age of 92, was incarcerated at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution for sexually abusing his family members for decades.
The longest serving inmate, 80-year-old Terry Caspersen, also died May 19. Caspersen was sentenced to life in prison in 1964 for the murder of Eleanor Kaatz in May of that year. He was housed at the Dodge Correctional Institution prior to this death.
