MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Legislative Republicans are taking another try at banning trans women from school and college sports.
Republican state representative Barb Dittrich and state senator Dan Knodl have reintroduced their Save Women’s Sports Act.
That bill would ban trans and nonbinary kids from taking part in school sports, and require schools to open up a ‘co-ed’ category of sports for them to compete in.
They say it’s needed to protect the integrity of competition, but Democrat Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard calls it an attack on vulnerable students and a scare tactic.
The bill failed to get enough support for votes last session, and if it passes, Democrat Governor Tony Evers is expected to veto it.
