MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — An all-nighter as Madison’s city council debated a student housing project.
Early Wednesday morning, alders voted to approve a rezoning request for a proposed luxury student housing project downtown.
A couple weeks ago, the council denied the request but that vote sparked concerns from the city attorney’s office that Madison could be sued over the decision.
State statutes say that no city may enact, impose, or enforce an ordinance or regulation that requires a certain price on rent.
Several Madison alders did express such concerns when they took a vote on the proposal in late June but have since changed their minds, so the project will move ahead.
