DAIRY NEWS – There’s still time for agricultural employers to register their summer interns for the 2023 Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) Accelerate workshop. The one-day program is designed to help college students build skills to get the most out of their summer internship experiences to prepare them for success in their future careers.
Current interns for agricultural companies, farms and other organizations are invited to attend PDPW Accelerate Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., with the program running from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The workshop is intentionally scheduled for late July to revitalize students as they near the end of their internship experience. By midsummer, they’re familiar with their roles and colleagues, and they’re in a position to return to their work knowing how and where to immediately employ the skills they’ve learned.
“The late-July program also serves as a breath of fresh air for students who are starting to shift their thoughts to their return to school the following month,” said Shelly Mayer, Slinger, Wis., dairy producer and owner of Mayer Farms Beef and Folk Song Farms event barn. “Not only will students get to network with their peers working in different sectors of agriculture, they’ll bring to their current employers a newly honed skill set and potentially set themselves up as the perfect candidate for a full-time employee upon graduation.”
A combination of classroom training and group activities will build interns’ skillsets to:
- recognize how personality types impact team interactions
- better understand their influence with fellow team members
- more proficiently communicate with colleagues and supervisors
- effectively convey and receive meaningful feedback
- set themselves apart during the interview process upon entering the workforce full-time
Workshop facilitator Michael Hoffman, president of Dallas-based Igniting Performance, will engage participants with his larger-than-life presentation style and help them learn through interaction with one another.
Registration includes workshop, materials and lunch. To learn more and to register, visit www.PDPW.org or contact PDPW at 800-947-7379. Follow along digitally in advance of and during the event by following @dairyPDPW on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
