APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Governor Tony Evers is promoting the two-year state budget he signed this week.
Governor Evers touted the budget’s increase in support to local communities for education, workforce housing and infrastructure programs.
The governor addressed a partial veto that restored 180 positions in the UW system’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts. Legislative Republicans cut those positions during the budget process. Governor Evers however, says UW schools will have some flexibility in staffing
“The University System can use that. They may use it for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion work, they may use it for something else,” said Governor Evers. “We just wanted to make sure they had the folks to do the work.”
The governor says he’s relieved that the budget process is now finished and the state can move forward.
