Independence Day festivities in Sheboygan weren’t as entirely festive and carefree as usual on the morning of July 4th, as a vehicular accident resulted in the death of a person in the Town of Sheboygan before festivities even began.
Details remain sketchy, with more information scheduled for release by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. What was initially relayed on Tuesday afternoon began with a call to the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center at around 8 a.m. from a person who reported hearing a loud noise outside. When they investigated outdoors, they located a male lying unresponsive in a ditch. Responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Sheboygan Sheriff’s Sergeant Timothy McNeil reports that a suspect has been apprehended and the vehicle taken into custody. Neither the name of the suspect nor the victim are being released at this time, as charges are still pending with the District Attorney’s Office. The process of notifying next-of-kin was also ongoing at the time of this release.
Agencies including the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Sheboygan Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Sheboygan Fire Department, Town of Sheboygan First Responders and Orange Cross Ambulance assisted in the incident.
