Preparations are underway for a host of activities that make Sheboygan an outstanding place to celebrate Independence Day.
While Saturday and Sunday will be absent of official events, that all changes on Monday when one of the local favorites – the Venetian Boat Parade – happens between 4 and 8 p.m., centered at Driftwood South Pier with music and beverages under a tent leading up to the procession of brightly lit boats traversing the Sheboygan River and Harbor at dusk.
Tuesday, July 4th will, as usual, host the lion’s share of events in what’s called “Freedom Fest”, starting with the Sheboygan Y Freedom Run at 7:30 a.m., the Independence Day Parade from the downtown to the Lakefront starting at 9 a.m., with continuing celebrations both at Fountain Park and other locations from the Riverfront to Deland Park. Of course, it’s all capped by the Festival Fireworks at 9:30.
Speaking of fireworks, the Sheboygan Police Department is reminding the public that fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, smokers and caps are illegal to possess or use within City limits. Setting them off could set you back over $376 dollars per violation, parents who consent to their childrens’ use can also be fined, and criminal charges can result from igniting them in a crowded area.
That being said, here’s a list of the holiday’s activities courtesy of Sheboygan City Hall.
