STEVENS POINT, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Air quality remains poor across Central Wisconsin as Stevens Point prepares to welcome thousands of guests and competitors for the USGA Men’s Senior Open Golf tournament at SentryWorld.
Mayor Mike Wiza says any alterations or postponements to the tournament schedule due to the smoke will come down from the organizers at the USGA, similar to any other severe weather event.
“Whether it’s a heat index or a storm or heaven forbid we get some sort of high wind advisory or lightning storms the USGA will make those calls if and when those thresholds are met,” said Wiza.
Wiza says resources are available for those who want to watch the tournament indoors.
Practice rounds at SentryWorld start on Tuesday.
