MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Childcare providers, parents and kids rallied at the State Capitol Tuesday.
They seek to change the minds of Republicans on the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee, who voted last week to remove more than $300 million for the Child Care Counts Program from the state’s next two year budget.
The program has distributed hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding to providers since 2020.
Advocates estimate that 25% of child care facilities could close without the funding. Others argue pandemic era funding for Child Care Counts should expire.
