MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Dane County is the first county in the nation to declare itself a sanctuary for transgender and nonbinary people.
Supervisors heard from people on both sides for hours on Thursday night.
Early Friday, the board voted overwhelmingly in favor of the sanctuary status which essentially says should there be legislation in Wisconsin to place criminal or civil punishments on gender affirming care, the Dane County Sheriff’s Department will make enforcement a low priority.
