MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Republican leaders and Democratic Governor Tony Evers have reportedly reached a deal on a shared revenue bill.
The deal would drop a requirement for Milwaukee County and city to hold referendums to approve new sales taxes. Instead, the County Board and Common Council would have to approve the taxes with two-thirds votes.
The deal would also allow the county to add 0.4% to its existing sales tax, slightly more than the original bill passed by the Assembly last month.
That bill also set a minimum increase of 15% in shared revenue for most counties and municipalities. The new deal reportedly increases that to 20%.
