MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Candidates who want to participate in the Republican primary debate in Milwaukee in August will have to pledge to support the eventual presidential nominee.
The Republican National Committee announced Friday that the debate will take place Aug. 23. If enough candidates qualify, a second debate will take place the next day.
Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel also released criteria to qualify for the debate in addition to pledging to support the eventual nominee. Criteria include having at least 1% support in three national polls or two national polls and one early state primary poll, having a minimum of 40,000 unique donors with at least 200 per state in at least 20 states and agreeing not to participate in any debate not sanctioned by the RNC for the remainder of the election cycle.
The debate will be televised exclusively on FOX News Channel and live-streamed on Rumble.
Former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and businessman Perry Johnson have declared their candidacy for the Republican nomination. Former Vice President Mike Pence and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are also expected to throw their hats into the ring.
The 2024 Republican National Convention will be held in Milwaukee.
